WarThunder max details getting above 200 fps… awesome

using 27″ iyama display with display port with 144 Hz, 1ms,…. looks more awesome… compared with 60Hz…

oculus ready ?  oculus compatibily tool says No, because of lower cpu base clock speed.. but 3Dmark graphic benchmark gives much more points then oculus needs..

while benchmarking cpu is at 50-80%.. in physics test cpu 100%.. (read from taskmanager graphs)


MSI GS30 + external graphic card

replacement for my 10 years laptop, samsung Q45, 12″, with core 2 duo 1,8 GHz… and SSD…
could be.. strong cpu, laptop only mode good/fast for compiling arduino sketches, compiling mobile apps, maybe playing with VR with unity…

i use the laptop always with plugged in power cord.. no mobile accu usage needed..

Durovis Dive – 2D-modification

Durovis Dive 7 for tablets

  • removed the original lenses, easy pull out
  • added wooden cubes with borehole, left and right, glued with special plastic glue
  • used brass threaded rods and brass screws and washers
  • some foam styropor
  • wooden stripes with boreholes
  • some rubber gum to prevent slidings..
  • used +5 dioptrien glasses
    magnification x2,25 dioptrien +5.0, ca. 16 Euro
  • ZEISS USB head^tracker at right side  (goes to pc, from there via usb serial to arduino to ps4)
  • USB OTG + USB Ethernet adaptor from „plugable“ + 5 meters high flexible ethernet cable
  • no additional power cord.. but could be done, because sony z3 tablet has an extra power connector


  • 2D view HMD is possible


  • the weight could be less, own 3D printing
  • sometimes fogging from nose breathing, sweating,
  • more comfort would be nice

next steps could be:

get rid of PS4 video compression lag
– use display with direct HDMI input..
– or use PC/Laptop with nvidias GTX grafic card for better video encoding and streaming
– or use PC direct USB thethering ( like seen with Trinus VR)

+5 dioptrien eye glass

these two eye glasses are better than standard reading glasses for our HMD projects,
they have greater magnification (more then +3.0 dioptrien, mostly the max value of standard reading glasses)
magnification x2, dioptrien +4.0, ca. 16 Euro
magnification x2,25 dioptrien +5.0, ca. 16 Euro

PS4 remote play OVER ethernet to Smartphone/Tablet

usb ethernet adapter from ( works,
we need an additional otg adapter (micro usb to standard usb female) between smartphone and ethernet adapter, ( but there is too, an new ethernet adapter with micro usb available ).
and at least, we need a ethernet app from appstore

and then we can stream PS4 games like flight sims (war thunder) to android smartphone, tablet (sonyz2/sonyz3tablet-compact) with full HD resolution in 60Hz.. stable.

attention: the tiny lag is still there… compared with hdmi video output on big screen!
but its usable.. so there is a video enconding in ps4 working, we can see some artefacts from video encoding at certain still standing screens.. but not remarkable in game plays.

2D HMD – testing reading glasses +2,5 dioptrien

to avoid cross eyed viewing a smartphone infront of my face i tested reading glass.

i used cheap 10 euro reading glass with head mounted smartphone(sony z2)/tablet(sony z3 compact)
This works very nice, better than cheap fressnel lenses.
Reading glass gives very brilliant image and is very comfortable to wear.

+2,5 dioptrien is usable, but +3,0 or more dioptrien would be great, because
the distance of the smartphone/tablet is still more far away then the x4 lenses of google cardboards.
You can buy +3,0 dioptrien easily, but more dioptrien..

i took a second identical reading glass and removed parts of the frame.. so i could use it
as second glass directly on the first glass.. this works.. but there is a 2-3 mm air between the glasses… the impression is not as good with single one, so further test could be
to buy reading glass lesnes without frame and use them directly on first glass.

so the best solution would be a single glass with high + dioptrien.. dioptrien vs. magnification factor
google cardboard has 4x magnification factor.. this means a dioptrien number of +16 !!!
our reading glasses with 3 dioptrien have only magnification factor of 1.75 !!!

2D FullHD HMD – magnifying lens

using a magnifying lens, type fresnel, like this one:
costs only 5,- euro.

we can use a tablet like Sony Z3 tablet compact or smartphone like Sony Z2
(with native Playstation Remote Play + Fligh Simulation (WarTHunder) + Headtracker),
bring the display very close to our face while using the magnifying lens to avoid crossing eyes,
having 2D full HD working, in none Side-By-Side.

so we can try to build something from scratch or modify a durovis dive 5 or durovis dive 7.
so we can have today, what cmoar wants to bring out anytime in a commercial version, the 2D mono lense.

this will be a good base for PC based game streaming too.

the ways to 2D full HD HMD

Headtracking via ZEISS USB headtracker.

we have to think about
– single display(like Occulus, SonyVR, SideBySide, one display for two eyes, for each eye a square display fieldview) and
– dual display setups(like, one display per eye, with square or landscape display fieldview)
– single and dual display solution with flat views or lense corrected views, this problem have both solutions

2016/TODAY half-fullHD, 2016 fullHD possible(2D,next 3D too), NEXT years: 2k, 4k:
– 4k smartphone display will appear from 2016 (Sharp 4k displays), but not cheap, intermediate price, not with display port/hdmi input
– 4k graphic cards, PC systems will take time, not be cheap, intermediate price..
so there is a place for fullHD solutions.

Next needed Graphic card hardware option, needed from Geforce, AMD,
is the
– two display-ports/two hdmi-ports solution, one output port for one display, so we could setup two display VR 2D/3D solutions directly without the need of additional hardware
today graphic cards with two identical/different outputs are available,
showing same view to all displays is possible, but connectors/connections to displays is difficult.
thinner or flexible good qualitity cables needed

PC FullHD -> HDMI splitter 1to2 -> 2 FullHD 6″ displays
same setup could work with 2k and 4k.. if PC an splitter can support this
PC FullHD -> 1 FullHD 6″ display with CMOAR Monolense, if CMOAR will ever deliver this item,
or cooperation with waerility (

PC with TRINUS VR can only support one client, so actualy we can not
connect pc to an usb hub, and connect two 6″ displays to the hub,
using usb thethered mode
maybe TRINUS VR will get an update for such dual screen setups, with one single view per eye/per display, and no SideBySide.

using two FullHD smartphones for 2D dual display HMD, we would face the needing for turn one smartphone, to touch the smartphones with the thinnest frame part (top) to each other.
Maybe manually locking the screen turning can in correct position can already solve this.

China delivers 1080p and 1440p display inclusive HDMI input connector board.
So we can/could (not tested yet) connect PC/console directly to the fullHD display.
We could use dual display setup with HDMI splitter, or single..
without wifi lags and quality issues.

with HDMI in and Wifi 2,4/5 GHz out and Ethernet out, and HDMI passthrough
using this device we could setup an dual display (smartphone) version.

smartphone inputs:
– usb thethered (best)
– wifi 2,4/5 GHz (second, alternative, using apps like splashtop,…)
– usb ethernet adapter (best, smartphone dependent)
– smartphone weight is higher then bare display

bare 6″ fullHD displays:
– DisplayPort (Retina Displays)
– HDMI (rare buyable,.. )
– looking for display controller boards
– bare display have lower weight

290,- euros for a fullHD smartphone(android4.4) solutions with addtional HDMI input!, and sensors, buttons,.. using this as base of single and two display solution seems possible..

FullHD to Side-by-Side problems

when you want to take a FullHD video stream
into Side-by-Side mode for your HeadMountDevice Full-HD mobile device screen,
you will trap into following problems:

keeping landscape mode, alias fit to width, for each eye,
with this mode you will loose in height, image looses its sharpness because of downsampling

fit to height, keeps sharpness, crispy video,
but loosing information in width..
eg any game infos at the original screen corners will disapear,…
we would need to cut out these information and overlay it at the new
video dimensions 960/1080 per eye.. into new corner coordinates..
